State Permits: As of now we have not been approved for our 2021 permits. We hope to hear soon. We have open camps to new students, cut numbers, trained staff, paid for insurance, all the things we need to do to even apply for a permit. Investing over $20,000 already in 2021.
Health of the Company: We closed the surf shops, closed the ice cream shop, cut 10 jobs, lost over $300,000. We are back to where we were 15 years ago. The loss is overwhelming. Watching everything I worked 90 hours a week fall apart. The reason for this is of course COVID-19. We are in the process of saving the surf school. We have already lost $80,000 in 2021 due to credits and student spot cuts per week. So what’s next? We hope our permits to make everyone whole. Get back to normal for 2022. If they cut our permits this year leading to another $300,000 loss, we will be able to survive until 2022. We can hang in there one more year, but there is NO money for refunds. We need to enforce our credit policy that has been in affect since 2010. So we appreciate your understanding.
Plans for 2021: Whatever week you selected in 2020 you’re automatically in the same week for 2021. If you want to move? Email us but with number cuts it may be harder this year. You can take another credit for 2022 if you like. Although we are really hoping to open at full capacity in 2021.
Safety: We will be practicing safety policies this summer like we have for years. Sanitizing surfboards and wetsuits, small groups of 5-6 will be enforced per camp.
How can you Help, Letters Needed: We are asking for letters to send into the State DCR from our students and or parents about our surf school / academy. We will be sending them into the state. Drawings of surfing by the kids, letters from the parents about our educated programs. The more the better. How we are safe, clean, teaching surfing in Hull. Your own thoughts. We do not believe the State really knowns how important we are to the South Shore and surf education.
You can mail to: Northeast Surfing / Ronnie Lees, 23 Russell St, Hull, MA, 02045.
We want to thank everyone who was very understanding about our credit policy. It is allowing us to survive and continue our surf school for years to come. Thanks for your support, Ronnie Lees, Hannah Lees.
